Projects

From ideas to outcomes

A selection of projects where the team has delivered solutions, explored new ideas, and trialled emerging technologies to solve real problems

AI Assistants
AI Assistants

The Innovation team proactively developed a platform for creating AI assistants using retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), enabling chatbots to provide responses grounded in approved University content, and trialled the approach across use cases including AI teaching assistants and a Careers Network chatbot.

AI assisted marking and feedback
AI assisted marking and feedback

Using OpenAI’s Assistants API, we were able to upload student reports, marking criteria, and model responses to an LLM, and have it use these resources to generate feedback. The tool completed in minutes work that would have taken a manual marker an estimated 18 hours, and produced uniform feedback across submissions.

AI Gateway
AI Gateway

We built an AI gateway to provide private, secure access to cutting-edge LLMs via bespoke APIs, allowing users to integrate AI into their projects, products, and services.

Automated Document Redaction Service
Automated Document Redaction Service

Identifying the potential for massive resource savings, we developed a web application that allows users to upload Word, PDF, or Excel files before using a Natural Language Processing tool to automatically redact selected types of Personally Identifiable Information from them.

Campus Services Data Integration
Campus Services Data Integration

A data feed was developed to integrate Campus Services till data into the University’s data warehouse. Working closely with Campus Services, the Innovation team established a reliable, automated pipeline to ingest and structure high‑volume transactional data for downstream reporting and analysis.

Exam Register Digitisation
Exam Register Digitisation

Using a custom-built generative AI Content Understanding model, we built a tool that takes scans of paper exam registers, automatically extracts the attendance data for each student, and uploads it to a database, before visualising it in a PowerBI dashboard.
